Properties: white or offwhite powder ;relative density is 2.846,Melts at approx.1084; sparingly soluble in water, soluble in alkali thiocyanate solutions ,Ammonia and Ether, but not in Ethanol , dilute Hydrochloric acid and Acetone; This item is flammable at above 140; When dry Cuprous thiocyanate meets aqueous Ammonia under cold circumstances,it forms a deep blue copper-ammonia complex (CuSCN5NH3) which discharges Ammonia while heating.

Application: protecting underwater surfaces of ships against vegetation as an effective antifouling agent in marine paint; Formulated with Sodium Pyrithione ,Copper Pyrithione ,DDT, TBT, it is a perfect antifouling agent inhibiting vegetation of algaes and biological activity of other marine organisms. Manufacturing industrial chemicals, pharmaceuticals and pesticides,And also used in freezing solutions, electroplating ,steel picking,printing, and corrosion inhibitor against acid gases.
Advantages as antifouling marine paint:
1.nce it appears white, the paint with Cuprous thiocyanate will remain lightness and bright-color hue.So it is suitable for top quality coatings.
2.Featured as stable properties,it doesnt go bad exposing in open air. Regarding antioxidant effect for full load and dead load vessels,the paint with Cuprous thiocyanate performs much better than paint with Cuprous Oxide. Because the antifouling paint with Cuprous Oxide will oxidized into Alkali Copper Carbonate and lose effectiveness.
3. Antifouling marine paint with Cuprous thiocyanate has a wide range of applications,such as Aluminum ship,wooden ship, glass fibre reinforced plastic boat.As we know, Cuprous Oxide and Aluminum reacts electrochemically in sea water,so paint with Cuprous Oxide cant be used in Aluminum ships, while paint with Cuprous thiocyanate does happen that way.
4.The rationale of Cuprous Oxide in antifouling paint is based on the activity of Cuprous ion. Though the copper content of Cuprous thiocyanate is only half of Cuprous Oxide, the rationale of Cuprous thiocyanate in paint is based on the molecular structure of Cuprous thiocyanate. Experiments on sterilizing effects and coastal breadboarding tests proved that Cuprous thiocyanate has better antifouling effect than Cuprous Oxide .Just owing to less copper content,Cuprous thiocyanate is known as environmental friendly product nowadays.
5.With the advent of environment era in every respect, Cuprous Oxide is gradually found hazardous to numerous marine organisms and trend of replacing Cuprous Oxide occurs in the global scale. So CuSCN will show more vitality in antifouling marine paint. According toInternational environment law,Cuprous Oxide is to be forbidden in market. At present,developed countries have taken measures to levy heavy duties on vessels in their coastal territory which dont meet their regulations on marine environment.
6.The last but not the least, Cuprous thiocyanate is more competitive in price compared with Cuprous Oxide.As per feedbacks from our domestic antifouling paint clients (most manufactures widely spreaded in Guangzhou ,Beihai, Qingdao), if achieving the same antifouling effect, the cost for producing antifouling paint with Cuprous thiocyanate can be reduced by RMB1000/MT or USD150/MT. Meanwhile, data from overseas clients show the dosage of Cuprous thiocyanate for long life antifouling paint is only 25%-30%.
