China is not surrendering in any way in this trade war. In fact today China snatch another gain from hosting the world’s first ever China Intl Import Fair where over 3000 delegates incl heads of state (western states like Germany, UK, Developing countries like Vietnam, Russia, African countries like Malawi, etc; heads of Intl orgn like WTO, IMF, etc). There are resounding praise on China’s effort to protect globalisation, free trade, rule of relevant trade rules like WTO rules, etc. What does it show?

• The world loves more trade. but US’s action reflect protectionism, unilateralism, notwithstanding whatever Trump said. Action speaks louder than words.
• Head of WTO said often countries said Exports are good, Imports are bad and that is wrong. I think US fits into this category where US slams selected Imports with tariff and use national security as excuse.
• The world gathers around China, not around US. Contrast it with Trump’s poster with Sanctions coming and Trump looking proud, arrogant, superfluous, look down on others, like a Big Brother.
• Contrast 3000 world leaders come to China to show their best products to do trade not only with China but among other countries. Whereas US is driving people away with tariff war.
• China’s continue to open wider and wider but US threatens EU auto, ban Huawei, strangle ZTE, restrict Chinese investment in US, etc.
• There are many other examples but they all show China wins. Pres Xi said there are some pressures but that is natural in the course of development. Pres Xi said China still exists after 5000 years of struggle against difficulties, China still exists after encountering numerous storms big or small, implying China can still progress steadfastly despite US trade war. The trade war could be the storm mentioned in Xi’s speech while China is an ocean where storm is just normal and not insurmountable.
• Trade war is a a war, and protracted - so watch out more for developments. At the end of the day, it is which country would have the last laugh.
