In the 20th century we have achieved a lifestyle of abundance by "making using discarding". However, this way of life has produced a huge amount of refuse, and energy has become scarce.
Today we have begun to reconsider the trend towards mass production and mass consumption, and instead are taking action to moves towards a "recycling society".
In order to protect our finite resources, we should not discard items that can be used again, but instead pass them on to people who have a use for them, thus reducing the burden on the environment.
